FEES
Dental fees are determined by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa).
For the most up-to-date overview of dental treatment costs, please refer to the “Dental Fees 2025”.
INVOICES
You will receive your invoice from Rivierenbuurt Admizeker by email or post. Previously, invoices were handled by the factoring company Infomedics. In practice, very little will change for you as a patient—your invoice will now simply come directly from us.
What does this mean for you?
You will receive your invoice—or more accurately, a payment notification—by post or email. We kindly urge you to inform us promptly of any changes to your address or email. This helps prevent unnecessary interest charges or collection fees.
We apply a 21-day payment term, which is binding. If you are unable to pay your invoice on time, please contact us at administratie@tprb.nl.
Naturally, you also have the option to settle the invoice directly after your treatment and then submit it to your health insurance provider for reimbursement.
EXPATS & DUTCH HEALTH INSURANCE
Are you an expat living in Amsterdam’s Rivierenbuurt or recently moved to the Netherlands? Then understanding how Dutch health insurance works—especially when it comes to dental care—is essential for your peace of mind and wellbeing.
HEALTH INSURANCE THE BASICS
In the Netherlands, basic health insurance (basiszorgverzekering) is mandatory for everyone who lives or works here. This includes expats. You must take out a Dutch health insurance policy within four months of registering with your local municipality (gemeente). Failing to do so can result in back payments and fines.
Even if you’re already insured in your home country, you’ll still need to sign up with a Dutch health insurer unless you qualify for a specific exemption.
WHAT DOES BASIC HEALTH INSURANCE COVER?
Basic insurance covers necessary medical care such as:
-
Visits to your GP (huisarts)
-
Emergency care
-
Specialist referrals
-
Hospital treatment
-
Maternity care
But here’s the key point for expats to know: dental care is not included for adults in the basic health insurance package.
Children under 18 however are covered for dental care under their parent’s basic insurance, making it easy for expat families to maintain healthy smiles.
DENTAL INSURANCE
If you’re looking to visit a dentist in Amsterdam—for example, here at Tandartspraktijk Rivierenbuurt—you’ll need supplementary dental insurance (aanvullende tandartsverzekering). This optional insurance can cover:
-
Routine check-ups
-
Professional dental cleanings by an oral hygienist
-
Fillings and crowns
-
Emergency dental care
-
Pediatric dental care beyond the age of 18
We often advise new expats to carefully check what’s included in their dental package. Coverage and reimbursements vary between insurance providers.
REGISTERING WITH A GP AND DENTIST
Once you’re insured, the next step is to register with a local huisarts and a local dentist. Your GP is your first point of contact for medical care, and they will provide referrals for specialist services.
At Tandartspraktijk Rivierenbuurt, we provide gentle, expert dental care tailored to expats and international residents.
